Wednesday Wonders 🌾🌻🧡🍂💛🤎🐌🦗🕷️🕸️

Rain coming! Smells heavenly!

Listening 🍂 ~ I have many things I want to listen to, especially from the Living Education Retreat. I’m looking forward to finding an uninterrupted moment so I can take notes! Looks like a wealth of knowledge here! I also want to try a recommendation from a friend, The Story Girl Podcast. I’m loving the audiobook of Firebird by Kathy Tyers. It reminds me of Star Wars, I’m liking the characters. We’ve been listening to this as a “call” to our morning time and we all agree it’s so invigorating and beautiful! 🤩

We own the Winter and Autumn collections in this series and really love them!

Watching 🍂 ~ I’m trying to limit Booktube to the weekends. My children recently watched The Sheep Detectives and said it was really good! I hope to try it this weekend?! Honestly, my brain space/power is SO low with all the outside things started!

Reading 🍂 ~ I just finished Murder on Bamboo Lane by Naomi Hirahara and it was a compelling police procedural mystery. A little grittier content wise, but I loved the writing. I liked the characters a lot even if a bit more overtly morally gray than I like. I’m slowly plugging away at The Virginian with my buddy reader and am loving it! Very well written and funny! I’m reading a couple chapters each morning of The Brothers Karamazov, and wow. 🤯 I’m also enjoying the second in a sci-fi series, Arabella and the Battle of Venus. We finished The Black Narcissus by Rumer Godden in my other group. Wow. 😮 It was dark, gritty food for thought. Not a favorite!

Noticing 🍂 ~ September is lovely, still summer-ish, yet shifting to autumn. The younger four kiddos and I went on a wonderful nature walk this week. 🤎💛🧡 It was so fun seeing old ‘friends’ again and noticing new treasure.

What are you listening to, watching, reading, noticing this week? 🥰 ~

  1. Ooo! We have “A Poem for Every Day of the Year” by the same editor and we loved it! 🥰 Your fuzzy caterpillars are so cute. My daughter has the most intense aversion to caterpillars, ever since she was very small she just absolutely went hysterical at the sight of one. No amount of cajoling could convince her to look at them calmly. She’s better now, but she still doesn’t think they are cute!

We’re listening to “The Birchbark House” by Louise Erdrich. I’m reading “The 5 Love Languages of Teenagers” by Gary Chapman. We’re also reading aloud “Marvel at the Moon” by Levi Lusko as our evening devotional, “Poetry for Young People: William Carlos Williams”, “Native American Animal Stories” by Joseph Bruchac and “Pride and Prejudice”. I’m noticing and enjoying the cooler weather! I love autumn! 🍂

  2. I love reading the Wednesday Wonders! I always mean to listen to podcasts…but I just can’t seem to fit them in! At the moment life looks like — get up, exercise, and God and me time (if I get up in time which means somewhere around 6:15 am) otherwise jump into breakfast, kids up, Family Bible time, chores, school, mixed in with life, after school stuff which varies each day (if I didn’t wake up early then exercise and God time), dinner, chores, evening life (spend time with hubby), bed and do it again.

I can confirm that “Sheep Detectives” is actually worth watching. It is cute, touching, and hilarious! I was amazed that a modern movie could be good (I have kind of given up hope and stuck to older movies lately).

It sounds like your reading is very autumnal.

Yes, I have also been enjoying the summer quality of September. We’ve had some awesome sunshine days here in the PNW and I am glad for it because I wasn’t quite ready to say good-bye to the sun! Though, I have enjoyed the smell in the air…can’t beat the autumnal smell!

Now, here are mine (for today):

Listening to…the kids playing and fighting and the highway sounds outside the window.

Watching…last night I re-watched Star Wars episode 4 “A New Hope” with the kids for family movie night and loved it just as I always do.

Reading…Well, I have actually been re-setting my reading. I haven’t read a lot this month because I have felt like where I was at the start of the year and my reading goals then are not where I am now…so I had to be ok failing at a few goals and re-writing my entire TBR lists (from physical to Kindle to libby app). It’s taken a bit. I am loosely reading, “The Vicar of Wakefield” by Goldsmith. So far, it’s ok. I am also loosely trying to read “Chasing Francis” by Ian Morgan Cron and also it’s ok so far. I don’t want to pressure myself right now with reading. We started our new home-school year three weeks back and that is probably why I decided to take a sorta reset/break from reading and clear off my TBR lists…

Of course this is my personal reading … I am not counting whatever I am reading to the kids for school…that’s just a lot, so I don’t want to list it all.

I don’t have a book-club at the moment because we all moved away.

    Anyway, that’s the reading front.

Noticing…I am a ball of emotions and thoughts at the moment. I feel such great trust and hope in God and what He is doing and also scared and lonely with what He is doing. Then, back to trusting and hoping…a bit of a cycle. Anyway, not to go too deep…but I am spending a fair bit praying lately and that’s never a bad thing. So, noticing myself and how I am dealing with changes that God has literally pushed my family and I into.
