Cozy Corners πŸ¦‹βœ¨πŸŒ»β™₯️🌿

Hello πŸ‘‹ ~

It’s taken me until today (Friday) to feel a little more relaxed! 😌 I realized I was trying to β€œforce” myself and the kiddos to relax. Ha. πŸ™ƒπŸ˜‚ We were able to pop into our lovely small local library and browse. A couple of my kids have been enjoying the summer reading program, so we picked up some more picture books. I’m sure missing my wonderful, curated living books which are packed away, as you know, for continued remodeling. I may treat myself later by pulling out a few bins of our history period we are studying this coming school year. It will satisfy my itch to be among my β€˜friends’ for a little while. My 14 yo daughter chose after the library to get an iced matcha and my two boys chose ice cream from our little drive in diner. We love the local hippy coffee shop with cheerful vibes and the fun diner. Our area has SO much natural beauty, too, and we have a couple of places we plan to haunt soon.

Our lovely friends let us chrysalis babysit and we got to watch three Monarchs hatch this week. 😍β™₯οΈπŸŒΏπŸ¦‹ Such a rewarding experience!

We spent the afternoon at a nearby lake and I truly felt myself relaxing. The cool wind and toasty sun, flickering through the trees was perfect. I’ve been wanting to reread my Summer Book by Susan Branch and I was able to slowly savor her lovely illustrations, quotes she collects, and recipes. I love her work so much! It made me excited to be a home keeper again. πŸ˜β˜•οΈβœ¨πŸŒ» One of my favorite things was sitting on the fishing dock with the sun beating on me. The weather was perfect. We also saw a pair of Belted Kingfishers flying low over the water. πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

I did a little journaling set up! I like doing little goals sheets, not religiously or anything, but to give myself a pretty way to track my habits etc that I’m continuing to work on. I’ve done these little symbol keys before! They are fun! β™₯️

I made a massive Brain Dump List and some other to-do things because it helps me to focus and calm down without all that rattling around in my brain. I’m also figuring out a way of curating the quotes from my reading that I want to jot into my commonplace. I read a lot and mark my books up, but I want to figure out how to better choose quotes! I loved this video about recently on this topic. I’m letting Jane Austen’s Bookshelf simmer before choosing favorite quotes to add out of the ones I marked.

I’ve been on a Booktube watching break and it’s interesting how many other things I get done and how much actual reading I get in! 🀣 I finished The Opt-Out Family and I must say it may be so far one of my favorite things I’ve read this year. I’m going to slowly go back through it, as I want to note ideas and passages better. Highly recommend! β™₯️✨

Finished my reread! Love Miss Austen so much! This isn’t a favorite of hers for me, but the 2nd half was such a wonderful character study. β™₯️✨

How was your week? β™₯οΈπŸ˜πŸŒΏβœ¨β˜•οΈπŸŒ»

Monday Ponderings β™₯️🌿✨ Baggins β€œcore” (with a Side of Tookishness) Refresh Week

Hello, Friends! 😁β™₯️✨🌿 We are on the other side of my daughter’s wedding! It was a lovely day. πŸ₯°πŸ₯²β™₯️ I thought I’d do a cozy refresh this week before I dive full force into to my autumn planning for all my homeschool and other responsibilities. The house needs some deeper cleaning and organizing, but mostly, my younger children and I need some summer cozy and fun. I’d like to bring you along and share little bits here and there. 😍πŸ₯°β˜ΊοΈ What are you up to this week?

πŸ₯°πŸŒΏπŸ˜βœ¨β™₯️

Wednesday Wonders {Day 95} πŸ“šπŸ¦‹

~listening to~ β™₯️🌿 I just barely started a new audiobook called Dream of Kings by Sharon Hinck. It’s a perfect listen on my riding lawnmower. I have wedding programs to work on later so I will probably listen to more! I heard about this free choice in the Audible Plus catalog if you have an Audible account from the lovely Booktuber, Emily

Colorful stack amongst my deck flowers! πŸ’ 😍β™₯️🌿 Trying a few and continuing others!

~watching~β™₯️🌿 I really want to try the 1995 β€˜Little Princess’ movie! πŸŽ₯ I’ve only seen the Shirley Temple version. It just came in from the library so hopefully my kids and I can watch it soon. I’m loosely participating in The Hardest Reading Challenge You’ll Ever Do 3.0πŸ˜†πŸ˜‚, so I enjoyed watching the announcement for that, too. Albeit she’s very opinionated, just FYI. πŸ€£πŸ˜¬πŸ˜…

β€’readingβ€’β™₯️🌿~ my mood is still somewhat πŸ˜†nonfiction, and I finished up the YRE of Radium Girls (fantastic) and Do Something Beautiful for God (gorgeous!), but I feel a shift to cozy? stories. I did read one of the Great Mouse Detective stories on my deck the other night. Our weather went from boiling and smokey to gorgeous and cool! 😍 I’m most interested in finishing up my reread of Sense & Sensibility and continuing Jane Austen’s Bookshelf. I’m currently very intrigued by Artifact by Gigi Pandian (so far some language) and starting The Pink Motel by Carol Ryrie Brink! The truth is I have SO many good sounding books on my physical and kindle stacks. πŸ™ƒπŸ˜β™₯οΈπŸ“š I’ve been ordering picture books from library because most of ours are packed away. It’s been fun to curl on my bed and read these with my youngest three. I find this gals recommendations are overall GREAT!

~noticing~β™₯️🌿 the details for my daughter’s wedding are slowly coming together! It’s getting close! 😱😭😍 I’m struggling staying with some of my rhythms and habits that are helpful, so trying to ease back into them for my sanity. However, trying not to guilt trip myself either. I’m finally feeling the school planning shift. Making some lists and poking around on websites. Love looking at book recommendations! Where do you look most for homeschool inspiration? β™₯️

Well, that’s all, folks! πŸ˜…β™₯️Bless you! β™₯οΈπŸŒΏπŸ“šβ˜•οΈβœ¨πŸ₯°

The Simple Woman’s Daybook {Day 89} β˜•️

I used to participate in this blog link up on my old blog YEARS ago! I don’t think it’s done officially anymore, but loved reading them, so unofficially joining here. My Wednesday Wonders post is inspired by this original one! Thank you to the original creator wherever you are! β™₯️✨

FOR TODAY~

Outside my window…golden and pink sunrise with a haze, promises to be very hot today! Yesterday it was near 100 degrees! πŸ₯΅

I am thinking…about last night’s local homeschooling mom’s meeting and how good it was to see the ladies! Need to figure out which book won the vote for our Autumn read!

I am thankful for…my cat Sophie πŸ˜‚β™₯️She’s so comforting!

From the kitchen…we’ve been making our chicken or tuna salad a lot! Usually shredded carrots, chopped celery, sometimes chopped apples, s&p, canned chicken or tuna drained and dill weed! Yum! We eat it on lettuce, bread, or with crackers. Sometimes I shred any available veggie like cucumber πŸ₯’ I have to use things up!

I am creating…I just finished my collage and little article for the letter/zine I write for! I really want to write a penpal letter and I’m trying to blog daily here. This autumn I’d love to pick quilting back up and learn to make granny squares!

I am going…possibly to the lake today so the kiddos can cool off swimming and I’ll sit in shade with my water and book!πŸ“–

I am wearing…a green tshirt and probably a flowy green, cream, and orange skirt! My pearl earrings and new brown slide sandals.

I am reading…I may take Moby Dick to lake as I love reading it by water! πŸ˜πŸ˜… I’m also loving Captain Blood and Jane Austen’s Bookshelf. Among many more. πŸ˜‰ Here is a wonderful Booktube about some lovely summer reading options!

I am hoping…that my daughter’s bridal shower is ok and not too hot or stormy! It’s outdoors! 😨

I am hearing…ac humming and my 12 yo’s voice (he’s recovering from summer flu 😭). I’m absolutely loving this album! So worshipful and comforting!

Around the house…we’ve have remodeling and wedding messes! 😩πŸ€ͺ🀣 I really need to climb into a storage space to find my daughter’s Christmas ornaments because I’m giving them to her with a new one for her and her soon-to-be husband’s first Christmas! 😭😭😭 I need to check all my boxed books and make sure they aren’t getting damp. πŸ˜– I also need to find our graduation party box to use the platters and twinkle lights for the bridal shower. I also need to make some treats for the bridal shower.

One of my favorite things…early morning with the light pouring through my new sliding glass doors.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week…a birthday party/book club with local friends and THE.BRIDAL.SHOWER. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜±β˜ οΈ

Wednesday Wonders 🌸🌺🌼 {Day 51}

listening to β™₯️🌿 ~

I’m taking a Booktube watching break/Instagram break and a few days in, it’s already been nice. I’ve mostly been listening to the birds on my deck early in the morning. Starlings are loud and strange sounding birds. 🀣 Recently, I got to hear two owls (Barred?) chattering because I went out there at 4:00 am. I did get in the Agatha Christie audiobook of Dumb Witness, Poirot and Hastings make me laugh! πŸ˜‚ I also got the audiobook Ruby Holler in, but we’ll see if I get to it. I decided to soft quit Calculated, my last audiobook, because I have to be in the right mood for revenge stories. I do like the main female character, though, and setting, so I will probably finish it.

Watching β™₯️🌿~ my hubby, three younger kids, and I traveled to see the biggest steam train recently. It was used during WWII to haul big loads over Utah mountains?! We had a fun Tookish adventure together! πŸ˜…β™₯️ I read almost a whole book there and back! πŸ˜‚ Otherwise, I haven’t been watching much? I hope to watch the movie β€˜Summer of Monkeys’ with my kids as we are almost finished with the book. πŸ₯°β™₯️

Reading β™₯️🌿~ I talk nonstop here πŸ˜‚πŸ˜ about my reading, but I’m currently most enjoying The Mysterious Magic of Lighthouse Lane, What you are looking for is in the library, and The Bride of Fallen Stars is intriguing me on my Kindle.

Noticing β™₯️🌿~ I’m mostly noticing flowers, trees, and seedlings. 🌱 πŸ₯° It’s a wonderful time of year!

What are you listening to, watching, reading, noticing? β™₯️🌿~

Wednesday Wonders β™₯️🌲{Day 8}

The Queen 😻🐈

Good morning! β˜€οΈ Resurrecting my Wednesday Wonders series…I recently answered these questions here, but they are always changing, so indulge me again?! πŸ˜„β™₯️🌷

β€’listening toβ€’β™₯️🌲~ I’m finally getting to the sequel in L.M. Montgomery’s Silver Bush duology, using this audiobook recording of it that is fantastic! I’m LOVING Mistress Pat even more than the first. Patricia is growing up and feeling the growing pains of possibly having to leave Silver Bush and everything changing! I identify with change being hard! πŸ₯²I also want to listen more to this Josh Garrels release!

Music practice always going on around here! So thankful we have the ability for lessons!

β€’readingβ€’β™₯️🌲~ My mood shifted yesterday πŸ˜… and I started rooting around for things to read. πŸ˜‚πŸ“š I think I’m leaning towards cozy classics, charming characters, and delicious nature descriptions. Of course, I first picked up, my gal, Maud Montgomery! Hence, Mistress Pat! A memory I have is rereading the whole Anne Series when I was pregnant with my first. Her name is Ann-E πŸ₯Ήβ™₯οΈπŸ˜… and she getting married later this year! Maybe I’ll reread the series this year in honor!? 😭😍

Moody stack!

β€’watchingβ€’β™₯️🌲~ I’m slowly rereading all the greats with my younger set. The Wind in the Willows is one of the current ones. It’s such a great book for spring! I was craving the claymation? film version and so enjoyed watching it. The peaceful atmosphere (except Toad πŸΈπŸ˜‚) was just as I remembered it.

β€’noticingβ€’β™₯️🌲~ Our Black Willow trees sustained a lot of damage in a recent ice storm, but I salvaged a few branches with buds for the table. The robins have been so cheery even though it’s been rainy and cold. I’m waiting not so patiently for warmth and usually by the end of April, the Barn Swallows are back! 😍β™₯️

Sunset πŸŒ…
Slow strolls and shadows
Coming to the end of this in our homeschool co op!
Beautiful 🀩 chaos – so thankful for life and color!

What about you? β™₯️🌲 What are you listening to, reading, watching, and noticing TODAY?! β˜€οΈπŸŒ·πŸ’œπŸŒΏπŸƒ

What’s Inspiring You? β™₯οΈπŸŒΏπŸ“š{Day 4}

Ice Storm Beauty πŸ©΅πŸ€πŸ’™

From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed.

Lead me to the towering rock of safety, for you are my safe refuge, a fortress where my enemies cannot reach me.

Let me live forever in your sanctuary, safe beneath the shelter of your wings!

Psalm 61: 2-4, NLT

What’s been inspiring me? β™₯️🌿

β€’listening toβ€’β™₯️🌿

BTS’ new β€˜Arirang’ album. πŸ’Ώ A bit different than what I expected but it’s growing on me. I don’t love lots of language or overly sexual themes, but there’s enough deeper lines/ideas that got me thinking. Hope to write a few of my own poems based on some of the lyrics.

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

I’ve also started the audiobook of Quarter Labyrinth by Victoria McCombs on the recommendation of a friend! It’s included free with Audible currently! I really hope our weather will warm up a bit so I can get outside walking and listening. πŸ“šπŸŽ§

β€’readingβ€’β™₯️🌿

I always have a healthy stack 😏πŸ€ͺ of things I’m dipping into! I’ve started my two buddy reads and I’m currently really enjoying slowly rereading my favorite Victorian novel of all time, Wives & Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell. It’s almost an annual reread for me. My 14 yo is listening to it for the first time and enjoying it! I’ve also been craving a reread of The Scent of Water by Elizabeth Goudge. It’s been awhile and it’s a perfect spring read.

If only I had this gorgeous vintage copy! 😍β™₯️🌿

I’ve also been enjoying the Alex Rider Series by Anthony Horowitz about a 14 yo spy with M16. The fifth? one made me definitely warm up more to Alex who seemed a bit cold/distant at first. They are so adventurous and thrilling. Definitely super violent, but compelling. I also just dove back into Donna Leon’s Commasario Brunetti’s police series. She writes Venice and Brunetti’s family life SO well, that I’ve just fallen in love with Guido as a police detective. The crimes are gritty and disturbing, so if you don’t like police procedural type detective novels, these may not be for you. I feel so immersed in Venice and his friendships and his family that I’ve come to love them! They are a fast, great Kindle read that I get through the library!

This one ☝️ was 5 star 🌟 for me!

β€’watchingβ€’β™₯️🌿

I really haven’t watched much recently as I took a Booktube break for the Lenten season. I did put on hold at the library the first Season of Dr.Quinn Medicine Woman πŸ€ͺ🀣 to see if I can get my hubby to watch with me during the chilly, spring nights.

β€’noticingβ€’ β™₯️🌿

How cute my little guys hands are! He has bad dry skin in the winter and we’ve been rubbing Aloe Vera into them each night. He’s such a blessing. πŸ₯Ήβ™₯️🌿

I’ve really been noticing and remembering little tidbits from this lovely collection of quotes!

β€œGod has not called me to be successful, He has called me to be faithful. When we stand before God, results are not important. Faithfulness is what matters.”

β€’Mother Teresaβ€’

Happy Easter, my friends! πŸ©΅πŸ’œπŸ©΅

Happy Autumn, πŸ‚ my dear Friends!

I’m hoping this week to hunker down into a bit of coziness. Nothing like the end of September, early October, easing into gratitude November, to foster a sense of richness and comfort. These are truly some of my favorite months. My family and I had a wonderful time with our annual apple 🍎 orchard visit, as well as our first bonfire πŸ”₯ πŸͺ΅πŸ„β€πŸŸ«πŸ‚πŸ. Sigh. 😌 So much to be grateful for! So curl up with a hot cup of tea πŸ«– or coffee β˜•οΈ and come chat with me.

Let Victober reading commence! Victorian literature + October = Victober. Lots of info about this event on Booktube or Instagram. I just informally follow prompts etc. πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€

β€œI am a child of the Earth and heavens. I find myself at once skipping like a schoolgirl full of wonder, and hushed in awe, something like the monks whose vespers follow the unfolding of the holy hours, and the turning of the globe, away from, then toward the sun.

I am humbled by this call to take in the autumnal majesty. To sit beneath the wind-blown boughs, to listen to the acorns plonking on the roof above my head.”

~ Barbara Mahany, from Slowing Time, p.152

I hope you’ll join me in your homes, journals, or own online places enjoying the season’s gifts! πŸ–€πŸ‚πŸΏοΈπŸ„β€πŸŸ«πŸπŸ–€

DIY Woman’s Well Refill β€œDegree” πŸ˜β™₯️

I was so inspired Chantel’s DIY Literature Degree that I’ve been thinking about how to incorporate something similar. I’ve been feeling the pull (again) to be purposeful about certain areas of my life. I need some home education, spiritual, and life inspiration! I put together a stack of books to pull from, resources, and habits to especially focus on this summer. I’m sure this will extend far beyond 3 months πŸ˜‰, but I love sharing in case it encourages/inspires someone else and as a bit of accountability for me. Firstly, here are some of the books. I am going to be dipping into these, and/or finishing, or rereading. My Bible and Fire Bible notes are a biggie as well plus various devotionals I dip into!

~ Formation of Character by Mason (life/ home learning)

~ Learning All the Time by Holt (home learning)

~ Get Your Life Back by John Eldredge βœ”οΈ

~ Women by Edith Stein ( spiritual/creativity/life)

~ The Cloud of Witness by various (ongoing)

~Slowing Time and Motherprayer by Mahany (spiritual/life)

~ poetry from different poets (spiritual/life)

~Know and Tell by Glass (home learning) βœ”οΈ

~ Real Learning Revisited by Foss (life/home learning) βœ”οΈ

~Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Dillard (nature/life) βœ”οΈ

~Jane & Dorothy by Marean Veevers

Some of these are on my Summer ABC list too, which works well!

Our last co op Picture Study artist! Fascinating!

The next area is my health. I’ve been floundering a bit in the program I was in and have gained a lot of weight back. I prayed about it and talked with a few close people and made some modifications. I’ve started back in and am feeling hopeful. I am prioritizing getting outside/walks, drinking water, trying to sleep, journaling, healthy food, and a biggie is limiting social media. I also have to have margin around our busy summer schedule. The key to these things is just a little bit everyday. I know it sounds like a lot, but I’m keeping it VERY simple to set myself up for success. πŸ™πŸ»β€οΈβ€πŸ”₯

Multiplication with Beans

Lastly, I really want to focus on real life relationships. I have a lot of people here at home and around me that I want to pray for and keep in touch with. Soooo, I’m focusing on s-l-o-w media…like penpals, this blog (it takes me a lot of work to post as I’m working from my phone), and an occasional reading wrap up on Booktube (super slow because it’s a lot of work to film and edit)! This means I won’t be around Instagram this summer, and limiting how much Booktube I watch! I have plans to connect with church and local homeschool moms this summer and I’m excited and a good nervous. πŸ˜… I’ve been seeing that I need to break some covid-era dependency on online friends. Not that I’ll forget them entirely, my Victorian Reading friends through Kate Howe’s Patreon are dear to me! 😍 I’m really focusing on reading aloud to my younger kids and dates with my hubby, too.

Recent library picture books that we loved! πŸ₯°

How β€˜bout you? How is your summer shaping up? If you could create a DIY degree for yourself, what would it be? I’d love to hear! Chat below! 😍β™₯οΈπŸ‘πŸŒΏπŸ„πŸ“πŸ“š
