A Mom’s Commonplace {Day 28}

Is there anything more cozy then journaling and journals? 😄♥️ It’s no secret that I’m a journal fanatic! We are trying something different this year in our home learning of combining our multiple journals into one. I’ve had the opportunity to journal alongside my children and it has been such an enriching experience. I don’t often share my children’s work, as that’s their own, but don’t mind sharing what I’ve been recording myself. 😆 So much richness! 😍I’m learning every day right along with my children. I have music lyrics, quotes, drawings, etc in here already! I treasure it. Do you journal?

What you learning or diving deep into? Isn’t life grand? 😄♥️🙌🌿🍄🌻

  1. What a wonderful way to commemorate what you’re learning alongside your children. I love this!

    I’m sorry if this is annoying, but do you use any particular curriculum for Shakespeare? I’ve noticed that you family reads a lot of it and I’d love to incorporate it as well, but I don’t feel up to the task of figuring it out myself!

    1. You are not annoying at ALL. 😅 We don’t have a curriculum, but a fellow mom just organizes the sections we read over the school year. We use Lamb’s retellings with the younger kids and for older kids we listen to Ark Angel audio version (on Audible) while following along in Folger copies of the play. Very occasionally we will watch a play on YouTube and ONCE we got to go to a wonderful live performance of The Comedy of Errors! 😄♥️ As a family, we will get picture book retellings and go to Shakespeare in the Park! We do occasionally work on small memorization pieces by just reading it each day, but mostly my older kids do that. Hope that helps! Most of us really enjoy Shakespeare! 😄

      1. It DOES help – thank you! Can you tell me which play your younger ones enjoyed the most? That might be a good place for us to start? We tried A Midsummer Night’s Dream 2-3 years ago and struggled. But I think my oldest (just turned 11) is in a totally different learning place and might be ready to try again!

      2. Mickey Rooney as a child! plays Puck in a b&w movie of A Midsummer’s Night that’s ridiculous and fun. 😂That’s the one I would have started with! The histories and tragedies are harder. The comedies like As You Like It, Much to Do About Nothing, Comedy of Errors, and Twelfth Night might be good?! 😊

  2. Beautiful pages!! 🥰 I love that you even include song lyrics. I have no idea why I’ve waited so long to do this but this year I finally started a commonplace notebook for just our read alouds and it’s been so lovely! Helps jog my memory for what we just read since notes are all in one place now. 🤪😄
