Iβm hoping this week to hunker down into a bit of coziness. Nothing like the end of September, early October, easing into gratitude November, to foster a sense of richness and comfort. These are truly some of my favorite months. My family and I had a wonderful time with our annual apple π orchard visit, as well as our first bonfire π₯ πͺ΅πβπ«ππ. Sigh. π So much to be grateful for! So curl up with a hot cup of tea π« or coffee βοΈ and come chat with me.
We were looking π for the Great Pumpkin π together! ππππΏοΈπβ₯οΈPumpkins are SO delightful, comfy, and cheerful to me! πππChili with cheese π§ β₯οΈπ¦πΎπͺΆLet Victober reading commence! Victorian literature + October = Victober. Lots of info about this event on Booktube or Instagram. I just informally follow prompts etc. π€π€π€π€π€π€
βI am a child of the Earth and heavens. I find myself at once skipping like a schoolgirl full of wonder, and hushed in awe, something like the monks whose vespers follow the unfolding of the holy hours, and the turning of the globe, away from, then toward the sun.
I am humbled by this call to take in the autumnal majesty. To sit beneath the wind-blown boughs, to listen to the acorns plonking on the roof above my head.β
~ Barbara Mahany, from Slowing Time, p.152
I hope youβll join me in your homes, journals, or own online places enjoying the seasonβs gifts! π€ππΏοΈπβπ«ππ€
βThe Spirit of the LORD spoke through me, his word was on my tongue.β
King David, from 2 Samuel 23:2
Hello, Friends! β₯οΈβοΈπ»I realize Iβve been a bit scarce as we dive into our new home educating year, I hope to get back to my 180 Day Project soon. Hereβs a few shots from our weekβ¦
How was your week? Ours was good, albeit looong! πβ₯οΈβοΈπ»πΏ
βNo one ever cared for me like Jesus His faithful hand has held me all this way And when Iβm old and grey And all my days Are numbered on the earth Let it be known in You alone My joy was foundβ
We had a great start to our homeschool year this week. I changed our multiple journals that weβve used in the past to one (plus a group one) for each of us and that is going very well! We so far are enjoying our booksβ¦the clear favorites of the week are our continuing a summer read of Jane of Lantern Hill by LM Montgomery, By the Shores of Silver Lake by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and Around the World in 80 Days audiobook by Jules Verne. I attached some things to meal/tea time and itβs working well. I so enjoy reading public library picks with my youngers in spare moments. Iβve worked out a rhythm for working through individual work my youngest to oldest and itβs working wonderfully. We still have some wrinkles to iron out as my 12th grader πβ₯οΈ is working two days a week this year and we havenβt hit the co ops we are in yet. They start next week! Overall, Iβm pleased with the forward motion. How was your week? Bless you as you put your hand to YOUR plow! β₯οΈβ¨π»ππ₯°βοΈππ€
I canβt tell you how much my Daily Pocket Moleskine had meant to me this year! Just a teeny place to record my to dos for the day, do a little creativity, and store lots of memories! Iβm really stretching the binding, but Iβm soooo happy with its bursting self! I donβt love Monday start calendars, so thatβs the only downside. Iβm planning on getting the red one for 2025!
This cartoon has been keeping me sane lately! π₯°β₯οΈπππΏ We are just passing through, friends, and itβs a painful and glorious journey, but precious Jesus is with us every step of the way. ~
Listeningβ¦ Iβm interested in learning more about communist history and thereβs a readathon on Booktube/Bookstagram in September called RedSeptember. I donβt necessarily follow the prompts etc, but I started early listeningto Red Scarf Girl by Ji-li Jiang. Fascinating and heart wrenching memoir looking at the cultural revolution in China. Iβm hoping to listen to Animal Farm by George Orwell next.
Readingβ¦Iβm working hard on Charlotte Mary Yongeβs, Dyvenor Terrace and The Cross by Sigrid Undset. Iβd love to finish them by September! The Kristin Lavransdatter saga is so beautifully written, however the story was heavy! Iβm going to be processing for awhile.
The Cross
Watchingβ¦I recently got The Boy and the Heron from the library and hope to watch it soon. Iβm a big fan of Hayao Miyazaki. Iβve heard itβs a bit dark, so want to preview it without children! π β₯οΈ
Noticingβ¦We saw a βVβ of Canada Geese last night! π I noticed a cluster of beautiful brown, amberish colored cones at the tippy tops of our blue spruce trees. Autumn π is creepy inβ¦π§‘π€π€
Iβm reading this on kindle, but saw this original illustration online! π
How about you? What are you listening to, reading, watching, and noticing? ππΏπ€
The times are so unfriendly. Play me something, would you, Rainy?

{starting my 180 Days Project! More about it as the days come and go! How are you all? Blessings over your week. Donβt forget to βplay a little musicβ against these unfriendly times! πβ₯οΈ}
One of the greatest things in human life is the ability to make plans. Even if they never come true – the joy of anticipation is irrevocably yours. That way one can live many more than just one life.
Maria Trapp
I found this in an old journal from 2016 surrounded by lots of those very same types of bygone plans. It made me smile. πΏβ₯οΈ
Listeningβ¦ I really enjoyed Episode S6E85 Morning Time for Moms, Part 4, with Christina Baehr, here. I couldnβt figure out how to directly link. Christina is a cozy fantasy author and homeschooling mom who chatted with Cindy Rollins. Thanks to my friend, Kate, for telling me about it!
Readingβ¦Know & Tell by Karen Glass. I was desperately in need of a refresher on all things Charlotte Mason as I plan our upcoming homeschool year. Iβm entering my 15th year of homeschooling. Iβm so thankful to God for His faithfulness. πβ₯οΈπΏ
Watchingβ¦This YouTube channel about Charlotte Mason homeschooling.
Noticingβ¦ raindrops on hollyhock buds, endless blue skies, and the way the barn swallows swoop around me when Iβm on the mower. Not to mention the smell of freshly cut grass! π₯°π₯°π₯°

I was so inspired Chantelβs DIY Literature Degree that Iβve been thinking about how to incorporate something similar. Iβve been feeling the pull (again) to be purposeful about certain areas of my life. I need some home education, spiritual, and life inspiration! I put together a stack of books to pull from, resources, and habits to especially focus on this summer. Iβm sure this will extend far beyond 3 months π, but I love sharing in case it encourages/inspires someone else and as a bit of accountability for me. Firstly, here are some of the books. I am going to be dipping into these, and/or finishing, or rereading. My Bible and Fire Bible notes are a biggie as well plus various devotionals I dip into!
~ Formation of Character by Mason (life/ home learning)
~ Learning All the Time by Holt (home learning)
~ Get Your Life Back by John Eldredge βοΈ
~ Women by Edith Stein ( spiritual/creativity/life)
~ The Cloud of Witness by various (ongoing)
~Slowing Time and Motherprayer by Mahany (spiritual/life)
~ poetry from different poets (spiritual/life)
~Know and Tell by Glass (home learning) βοΈ
~ Real Learning Revisited by Foss (life/home learning) βοΈ
~Pilgrim at Tinker Creekby Dillard (nature/life) βοΈ
~Jane & Dorothy by Marean Veevers
Some of these are on my Summer ABC list too, which works well!
Our last co op Picture Study artist! Fascinating!
The next area is my health. Iβve been floundering a bit in the program I was in and have gained a lot of weight back. I prayed about it and talked with a few close people and made some modifications. Iβve started back in and am feeling hopeful. I am prioritizing getting outside/walks, drinking water, trying to sleep, journaling, healthy food, and a biggie is limiting social media. I also have to have margin around our busy summer schedule. The key to these things is just a little bit everyday. I know it sounds like a lot, but Iβm keeping it VERY simple to set myself up for success. ππ»β€οΈβπ₯

Lastly, I really want to focus on real life relationships. I have a lot of people here at home and around me that I want to pray for and keep in touch with. Soooo, Iβm focusing on s-l-o-w mediaβ¦like penpals, this blog (it takes me a lot of work to post as Iβm working from my phone), and an occasional reading wrap up on Booktube (super slow because itβs a lot of work to film and edit)! This means I wonβt be around Instagram this summer, and limiting how much Booktube I watch! I have plans to connect with church and local homeschool moms this summer and Iβm excited and a good nervous. π Iβve been seeing that I need to break some covid-era dependency on online friends. Not that Iβll forget them entirely, my Victorian Reading friends through Kate Howeβs Patreon are dear to me! π Iβm really focusing on reading aloud to my younger kids and dates with my hubby, too.
Recent library picture books that we loved! π₯°
